Christmas Day

christmas morning was so peaceful, fun....

i feel like bob dylan's song "Forever young"  should be playing in the background and the lighting is soft with sun light pouring in. It feels as though time stalls and everything that is magical about childhood comes out in this moment.

Parents beaming and children giggling with delight. children feeling so loved. delighting as people have hand chosen gifts to lavish love on you. seeing what gifts your children chose for you, watching their brains try and figure out some of the presents...

knowing that this day is something that will stick out like a comet in their childhood memories, and how much of a privilege it is to be able to form this day for them, my littles.

Fia gasped and exclaimed after every present. There was so much wonder and rapture and excitement. It was actually incredible.

It was the perfect blend of real and magical. There were fights over new toys, hugs and wide eyes over presents received, cuddles and dad's drawing on your white board. there were trips to the toilet babies to be rocked, games to play with your bright 5 year old and new dolls to tuck in

It had a beautiful pace of crescendoing moments along with sweet peaceful togetherness.

mid afternoon nap

The families came over for brunch and we played more games together and put on a christmas play. It was hard to harness all the desire " i want to be a king" says both boys. I re-state " a wise man?" no.  a king. So then we have to play both roles- shepherds and wise men and have costume changes and so forth...Sophia was going to be the star.. but then wanted to be the angel, and then really really wanted to be a queen. o dear.

but what it really did was get some quality time with the older kids and lots of giggles. harnessing their determination and trying to get them to be a part is all part of the fun, right?

Having our children all together and playing pretend snow ball fights, making snow men,  marshmallow tosses and christmas plays- made Christmas that extra bit more special.

The food, the cookies, the laughter and presents, surprises and giving, creating and playing, sparkly lights and beverages made a compilation of perfect Holiday memories. and then settling in after it is all done sister beside me, Husband close,  and feeling so satisfied, so thankful. so blessed.
