Family adventure 1

family adventure. so i have been itching for time to explore this marvelous country. you can just ask my poor husband.

about once a week, i have a minor “freak out” because i want to go on an adventure. he has been gently reminding me that when we have a car it will be possible. the cost, trouble, and inconvenience of taking taxi’s outside of beirut- especially to remote places is just not worth it.

So....we bought a car! super exciting and amazing and relieving. and guess what that meant- three days after having it, we embarked on our first family adventure. Saturaday, our day of rest, is dedicated to this very purpose, so our first Saturaday with a car, we were ambitious.

I have heard whispers and suggestions about a famous waterfall, and i had my heart set on this. So even thought it was extrememly hard to find how to get to this mysterious sight, we discovered a way.

We piled in the car, bags full or diapers and snacks and camera. I even asked drew if we should bring bathing suits in case the river the waterfall pours into was... tempting. he laughed at me and told me to bring jackets for the Bear and i.

We made our way out of our bustling city ( with a lot of other people leaving the city at this particular day and time) and headed into the mountains. After driving up windy hills for about 15 minutes all we could say was “wow”. which of course little CB began to imitate. The trip was a “wow” trip.

we curved and turned and would happen upon stunning views of our city and the sea, of valleys and mountains. It was incredible. and it just kept going. We drove for about 1 1/2 hours ( pretty slowly) until we happened upon what we felt was the perfect mountain village to stop for lunch. it was perfect. it felt like a little french village, and i personally kept pretending like we were in the village of choc-olate. we ate lunch as a family and drank in the beauty and fresh air of moutain life. claire was giggling, running, twirling, climbing steps an yelling “happy” to anyone who would hear.

our lunch stop- you just can't capture the view

this was the choco-late church

and after getting held up by goats, donkeys, and cows in the road our long search was over. we found the waterfall.

it flows out of a giant cave. and honestly bedsides some gypsy children and one or two local cars that drove by, we were completely alone.

it felt oh-so-rewarding. to be immersed in beauty. to have the waterfalls flowing and to feel like we are the only ones on earth enjoying it at that moment.

and drew was right, we needed jackets. there was no jumping in...this time. i have a feeling that if we took the chuds, we would be jumping in.

here is one of the views of the valleys

gotta love adventures with a cutie...
