the everyday. your stages
I can feel myself transitioning from mother of babes, to mother of kids. It feels weird. I notice that i am done with bottles and pacifiers, and even that it is not essential to pack a bib. I feel more mobile, our schedule feels so flexible, and watching Hope emerge as one of the play mates has been so so cute.
Hope with her blanket and her snuggles. Her laugh she only does when she is in a room alone with her sisters. She talks in the cutest ways and sings throughout the day- car, bath, on the balcony. She becomes so excited at the sight of babies and animals she starts shaking - its is more than either of the other girls.
She greets us with a loud " Hi! mama " or " Hi Baba" and runs to the door to just throw herself into our arms. It is the most rewarding way to be welcomed.
She has been roaring at us like a Lion, but when we tell her we are scared of the Lion- she says. No- I didda nake. " a roaring snake? i guess so.
She remembers where everything is, and hands us water bottles. If we don't know where someones shoes are... she does. She pays attention to details and helps clean up when there is a mess. She places things in the spots where they are supposed to be. It is so fun to have an aware, detailed, loving cutie toddling around!
oh, and did i mention that she loves her moothies. She shouts out " YAY!! MOOTHIE!!!" and starts trying to jump, but it looks more like a lope...
Layla is such an external processor. She comes home and tells us detailed descriptions of the games and worlds they create on the playground. Of the complex interactions and how they made her feel. I so feel the role I have to play with her, to listen and ask. to draw out more, to affirm and empathize. To coach and encourage. It is so deep and meaningful and daunting all that goes on in her heart and head.
She is always full of ideas, like " mama, we should sit on different stairs and take a picture of us sisters. "
Layla also came home recently inspired to put more effort into her school projects. We visited some Lebanese friends and the girls were working on amazing projects. I told Layla I was absolutely willing to help her but it always feels like she gets bored after two minutes. We schemed and planned and worked together a lot for this project. Using things from your house; boxes, cartons, toilet paper rolls create a game of toy. She wanted a Ship named Maridell.
She came home today completely overjoyed because she had mobilized the whole playground to play a "battle" against each other. 1c ( her class) was fighting 1A- and they won. She gathered all the girls and exhorted them to " fight!" and she loved how in turned the whole playground into a laughing, running, hiding...battle. such a leader, that one.
She rallied this crew to be in a train with her...
Fia and Layla are inseparable these days, matching each other with creative ideas and imaginative worlds to live out of...
But you had an epic play date with one of your best buddy's Lana, and it was so fun to see your sweet friendship loving heart so fulfilled!
and. ahem. you have lost both of your front teeth. You were so brave and were wiggling the first bottom one all.the.time. I looked at it one time during dinner, and realized how close it was to falling out. I asked if I could apply some pressure and you reluctantly agreed. It was out in a matter of seconds. You were ecstatic but also not totally digging the blood. Second tooth came out almost the exact same way, but Baba pushed it a little.
Fia, fiery loving Fia. She is so affirming and loving. Her love flows like a roaring river. You are da best baker mama. You are so beautiful. I love you so much, Mama.
She is a total snuggle bug and once she loves you, you will get the glory of her bright eyes story telling and adorable thoughts. She has an imaginary friend named Celine- and some of Celine's craziest feats have been sent back and forth between Baba and I so we can laugh together.
Sophia is such a ham. She is the one that hears over the line things, and they stick. She loves to sneak in potty jokes to Elijah and Isaac and get them laughing before she gets caught. She is a pro at getting the little ones to laugh. She has an intuitive way with humor, knowing the right timing, and the right faces that will just get the littles every time. Hope adores her.
Sophia is so generous. She gives freely and not surprisingly if she loves it the most, it could be the thing that she wants to give away to her best friends or sisters. If I ever take her to get a treat or date, she will not come home without getting things for her sisters.
She cares so deeply for her beloved ones. She has been so sad that Baba has plastic in his belly. ( He has had a stent because of some kidney stones). She woke up the morning he was scheduled to remove it and the first thing she said was " Baba, is getting the plastic out, he can play with us with no pain! No he can give me rides on his back" .
She loves to be wrestled and rough housed. She likes fighting and physical activity. She is determined and watching her run sprints with her little tummy and legs going as fast as they can, I die.
Watching her push and try and not give up in gymnastics is amazing. I love seeing how much effort she puts into everything.
