Valentine's Day Get-Away...

Our pace of life here is so unpredictable. weeks can be completely filled, drew and i darting around, and basically kissing each other hello and goodbye as we swap watching the girls. then we have long lazy days of family or evenings of togetherness.

After a few weeks of packed days, Drew and i had the marvelous opportunity to have a  romantic ski-get away. It just so happened to fall on Valentine’s day.

the girls were settled with Rem and Val and we took off to try a new restaurant by the Sea

It had great reviews and we were wanting lebanese cuisine. It was fanstastic. The restaurant was snazzy, incredible service, food was delictable ( learned that from Fancy Nancy), and we had all the time in the world. we dined. we laughed. we processed and debriefed our last days “apart” from each other.

after our amazing meal, they surprised us with a fruit feast. it was so lavish and fun, and complimentary.

then we headed to our hotel just up the mountians a bit. again it feels so fun and stress free without the girls. I definately feel like something is missing, but it is so nice to pull into the hotel and not be unloading kids and grasing pacis, and heaving things onto my back and shoulders. no, just dressed up all cute and with my love.

We woke up early, ate a arab breakfast and were on the road by 8 am.

We had about 40 minute drive to the slopes, and it was so majestic. the wind was incredibly strong, and we both hoped it would not hijack our fun get-away.

As we arrived to the main ski slopes, we noticed many many cars full of people pulling out and zipping in other directions. uh-oh.

In the lift ticket line, we were informed that all but 2 lifts were closed. the main one that takes you to the other lifts and drops you off on a green.  and one other one that has a pommel and takes you to a choice of 3 runs. it is a holiday so there are hundreds of people deciding what to do.

Well, hundreds decided what we decided- which was go for it. I mean we have the day off, the babysitting, everything is ready, so we might as well just go for it. We got into line with the excited masses, and it took us about 30 minutes to get on the lift. 30 minutes of people pushing in on you, cutting in front of you, sneaking up from behind. in a land where lines mean nothing, i sighed a deep sigh. gotta make the best of this.

when we got to the 2nd lift, i was watching person after person fall off. it was a really “jerky” lift, and i was unsure how i would be able to hold on...and i didn’t. i fell. 2 times. and as tears rushed to my eyes, i thought to myself- ok mare. either you ski a green all day or you try again.

3rd time was a charm. and that is basically what drew and i did all day, we waited in lines and skiied the same run over and over again. but hey, we were skiing. We deviated a little finding a back path with another lift running and were over-joyed and skiing down the run with enthusiasm and joy, only to find out it was a private lift. =(

which made for a hike up a slope. which was fun and exhausting.

It whet my appetite for skiing, and we both were so happy to be able to have this option so close to us- wow!

over all it was an incredible escape: bonding, unpredictable, majestic, adrenaline rushes, and lots of time to connect!
